Peter and Paul Cathedral, located in the resort town of Karlovy Vary, is an Orthodox church and a courtyard of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Initially, it was assumed that the church in Karlsbad will become the first Orthodox cathedral in the Austrian Empire. The land on Peter the Great Street was donated by the Karlsbad City Council. The building was designed by the architect K.A. Ukhtomsky. However, despite this, construction was never started due to lack of funds, and the Anglican Cathedral of St. Luke was erected on the land allocated for the Orthodox Church.

In 1862, a Russian the community purchased a house in which a house church was built. In 1863, the temporary Peter and Paul Church was consecrated. In the same year, fundraising for the construction of the temple began.

Soon, opposite the former site, the Washington building was bought, in which a house church was also arranged. Later, the church became small for all parishioners of Karlsbad.

In 1872, they managed to raise a sufficient amount for the construction of the temple. The first stone was laid in June 1893. The construction work was supervised by the architect Gustav Viderman, who took as a basis the project previously drawn up by Ukhtomsky. The city magistrate provided a 20% discount on building materials.

In May 1897, the cathedral was consecrated in honor of Saints Peter and Paul. In 1903, the church was renovated, during which the roof was covered with galvanized iron, and four small domes were covered with copper.

By the beginning of World War I, the rector of the church, Nikolai Ryzhkov, was arrested by the Austrian authorities. In 1916, the gilded copper was removed from the bell and domes. Until the end of the war, the temple remained closed. After the war, the church was reopened, but it only functioned in the summer.

In the 1970s, the temple was overhauled, restoration was also carried out in the 1980s.

The church was erected in the style of the Yaroslavl and Moscow churches of the 17th century, with porches and entryways, as well as a covered gallery around, converging at the bell tower. The four bells of the temple were acquired in Czechoslovakia after the Second World War. In the lower part of one of the walls of the cathedral, you can see the high relief `` Peter and the Masons '', made of bronze, created in 1912, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Peter the Great's stay in the city.
