At the beginning of the 19th century, the walls ceased to carry their main function and they were demolished as unnecessary. Only a small section of the wall between Piazza Giardini and the Double Gate has survived to this day. The gate was built in the 2nd - 3rd centuries and consists of two arches, which are now the entrance to the Archaeological Museum of Istria.
