Ayios Iaonnis Lampadistou Monastery in Cyprus, Troodos Resort

This monastery was built in honor of a local martyr who suffered for his religion. The parents of the young man John Lampadistu wanted him to get married, and the young man himself wanted to become a monk. Suspecting John of witchcraft, the bride's parents poisoned him. The young man died at the age of 22, and a little later he was canonized, and a monastery was built in his honor. Currently, the monastery is not active, although the chapel contains relics saint, which many pilgrims strive to see. St. John is believed to help build faith.
