This bridge is located in Qingdao Bay, on the shores of the Yellow Sea, in the south of Qingdao. The bridge is the symbol of the city.

It was originally built in 1891 as a naval and military pier. This bridge has existed since the very foundation of the city. During the Qing Dynasty, an emperor's ambassador was sent to Qingdao to check the development of the place. At that time, Qingdao was still a small fishing village and could not receive the ambassador's large ship. Then the residents had to build a temporary bridge, the width of which was 10 meters, and the length - – 200 meters. The pier was used for several more decades, but after the advent of the PRC, the Zhangcao Bridge was abandoned, as the government built a new deep-water port here.
