Photo and description

The luxury villa Xanadu, which used to belong to an American multimillionaire, always attracts tourists. It is better known under the name of Villa Dupont, as it was named after the entrepreneur Irenie Dupont de Nemour. The rich mansion is located on the very outskirts of the Icacos Peninsula, right above the rocks. In 1926, an American, who had become rich during the First World War, moved to Cuba and bought almost all the lands of the peninsula for practically nothing. Then he sold plots in a paradise place to wealthy compatriots for much more. This is how a beautiful village with rich villas and lush gardens appeared. Dupont did not forget about himself, his mansion became the crown of local architecture, which was built and equipped with the latest technology of that time. It cost 1 then $ 3 million. Together with the family of the billionaire, 70 workers, servants and guards lived. The villa was distinguished by its convenience and unprecedented comfort for the beginning of the 20th century. The house had a telephone, an elevator, a huge wine cellar, a library, a special tea room, and a bar that occupied the entire third floor. DuPont adored his daughters, so the bathrooms are incredibly huge and have all sorts of fixtures and fittings. A caring dad gave one of his girls an organ. But in 1957, the Du Pont family had to leave the fertile lands, as he began to have health problems. Already in 59, the mansion was nationalized. And after 5 years, the national restaurant "Las Americas" hospitably opened its doors there, which still receives visitors. And after his death, they began to lead excursions worth $ 3 to the house of Dupont. Since the former owner was previously fond of golf, the new owners have improved the courses and organized a golf club that is officially included in the annual schedule of professional European golfers. They say that Che Guevara himself played golf on these courses, which is confirmed by a photograph of the famous revolutionary with a club, which was displayed in the hall of the golf club.
