Photo and description

By the 40s of the 20th century, not a single Orthodox church remained in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Frunze (now Bishkek) and its environs: some were destroyed, others were transformed into a museum and an orphanage. Therefore, in 1943 for the believers of the city it was decided to build a church in honor of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The next year, a plot was allocated for the church, on which the empty building of the Kirpromsoviet was located. Dwelling houses, which were demolished only in 1996, adjoined the territory of the future temple.

For three years, the construction team, headed by the architect V.V.Veryuzhsky, managed to transform the building of the Kirprom Council and turn it into a beautiful temple, the architecture of which harmoniously combines eastern and Byzantine features. A slender square bell tower rises to 29, 5 meters and resembles a minaret with its outlines. Inside the church is lined with ceramic tiles, which in hot climates save from the heat and protect the building from insects. The domes of the temple and the bell tower are crowned with Orthodox crosses. The interior decoration of the Resurrection Cathedral is considered to be a three-level iconostasis, paintings on the walls and two thrones.

For the first time, the cathedral received believers on January 1, 1947. Since then, the territory adjacent to it has been expanded and transformed. An administrative building appeared next to the temple, where the staff of the diocese work and the residence of the bishop is located. At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the Alekseevsky side-chapel of the cathedral was painted with frescoes on religious themes. Local artist Evgenia Postavnicheva was invited to work on them.
