Photo and description

Honey waterfalls are a unique natural phenomenon that is located thirty kilometers from Kislovodsk, on the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia, in the valley of the Alikonovka River.

The mountain river forms numerous waterfalls, which have arisen due to the destruction and collapse of rocks in the Alikonovka gorge. The largest waterfall is Medovy, it falls from a height of eighteen meters. The waterfall is fed from a spring and is one of the tributaries of the Alikonovka River. Near it is the Pearl waterfall. Slightly lower is the Secret runoff, then the Snake and Devil's Mill flow along the steep rock. At the foot of some waterfalls, lakes have formed where you can swim in the summer heat.

Thanks to the trails that lead through the rapids and rocks along the Honey Falls, you can admire the beauty of the Alikonovka gorge. Opposite the waterfalls there is a sheer rock, which in its outline resembles the bow of a ship, which was named "Pointer".

In summer, honey grasses bloom on the mountain slopes, obviously this is where the name of the waterfalls comes from. There is a beautiful legend that tells that wild bees used to live in these rocks. During the spring high water, honey was washed out of the bee hives, as a result of which the water became sweet. Also in ancient times there was a tradition - after the wedding, the newlyweds retired near the waterfalls during their "honeymoon".

You can get to the waterfalls from Kislovodsk by car or by sightseeing bus. For those who prefer walking, a trail has been laid along the Alikonovka River,
