Kardinia Park description and photos - Australia: Geelong. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Kardinia Park. Photo & DescriptionCardinia Park is the main public park in the southern part of Geelong City. There are a number of different sports facilities: the main stadium of the Australian Football League, an auxiliary football stadium, a cricket field, an open-air pool, netball courts, a variety of sports clubs and the Retirement Center. Park "Cardinia" was created in 1872. Originally known as "Chilwell Plain", it covered an area of 24 hectares. By 1911, there were already two football stadiums in the park, one on the west side, the other on the east. In 1941, Geelong Football Club began to use the east stadium for their games, as its home field, Corio Stadium, was occupied by the military. Interesting, that the Corio Stadium is still operated by military units today. In the mid-1960s, an open-air swimming pool complex was opened in the park, which, however, only works during the warmer months of the year. There are five swimming pools in the complex: one for infants, one for older children, two 50-meter pools with 8 lanes and a diving pool with jumps at a height of 1 and 3 meters. In the 1980s, a water slide was added to the complex, which also only operates during the summer months. Swimming competitions of various levels are often held here. In 2005, large-scale renovations were carried out in the complex, which cost the city $ 4.4 million. We also recommend reading Monument to M. S.
