Photo and Description

Geelong Quay is a tourist recreation area on the northern shores of Corio Bay. Once this territory was part of the city port, which was abandoned for many years and got a new life in the 1990s.

Today, the city's waterfront offers many opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. In the mid-1990s, local artist Ian Mitchell created the Bavevock Ballards sculptural composition here, consisting of wood sculptures with drawings reflecting the history of the city. There are more than 100 of them, they are installed along the embankment between the suburb of Rippleside and Cape Laimberners. On the western side of the waterfront is the Deakin University campus, which has about 1,500 students in specialties such as architecture, construction management, nursing and treatment of occupational diseases.

At the end of Yarra Street is the marina, which today hosts many restaurants. From here helicopters take off for sightseeing tours. Most of the pier was destroyed in a fire in 1988, but some of the structures have been restored. The other quay dock, Cunningham Quay, is home to one of Geelong's finest restaurants, a bar and cafe offering excellent views of Corio Bay and the city in addition to a gourmet menu.

Morabool Street, which overlooks the waterfront, ends mooring Stimpaket, where ferries, seaplanes and other vessels are stationed. In the Carousel Pavilion, you can see a carousel with a steam engine from 1892 and a Gavioli organ made in 1898. Here, on the embankment, is home to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, established in 1859, and built in the 1980s specifically for yachts Bay City Marina.

A favorite vacation spot for citizens and tourists is East Beach, also located on the Geelong waterfront.
