Photo and descriptionThe Melitopol State Museum of Local Lore is located in a mansion that previously belonged to the merchant Chernikov. The museum exposition introduces the nature and history of the Melitopol region. The Museum began its existence in 1900, when the Melitopol Zemstvo for 750 rubles. a collection of stuffed birds was acquired, numbering 180 copies. Ten years later, this collection was combined with the local history collection of the city real school of Melitopol. And eleven years later, in 1921, the regional museum was opened. In 1967 the museum moved to its present premises - the Chernikov mansion. The three-story mansion was built in 1913, and after the emigration of the Chernikov brothers to France, the building housed Wrangel's headquarters. Later, in the 20s and 30s. of the last century, workers' clubs functioned in the building. During the Great Patriotic War, the German commandant's office was located in the mansion, and with the liberation of Melitopol, the city committees of the Komsomol and the party were installed there.
