Photo and descriptionMiracle of Melitopol region - the Church of Michael the Archangel in Tikhonovka - was built at the end of the 19th century (approximately 50-90 years) and is rightfully the oldest temple in this region. The consecration of the church took place at the end of May 1905. But before that time, wooden churches had already been erected on the same site, each of which was destroyed by fire. The foundation on which the temple of Archangel Michael was erected, according to some sources, is more than a thousand years old. Before the revolution, the church had a five-tiered wooden iconostasis. During the Great Patriotic War, a hospital was temporarily located within its walls. Leaving Tikhonovka under pressure from Soviet troops, the Germans intended to blow up the church and, along with it, all the villagers. But, fortunately, they did not have time to implement their plan, and the temple of Michael the Archangel experienced revolutions, the horrors of two wars, a change of government, natural disasters, an era of godlessness. In 2011, the Church of the Archangel Michael in Tikhonovka was included in the “Seven Wonders of the Melitopol Region”. This iconic building invariably attracts the attention of tourists not only for its history, but also for its architecture. The sturdy, imposing red brick structure bears the imprint of an entire era. Topic: Church of Michael the Archangel in Tikhonovka description and photos - Ukraine: Melitopol. |
