Photo and description

The Orthodox Monastery of St. Sava the Sanctified in the city of Melitopol was formed in 95 of the last century and became the first monastery of the Melitopol and Zaporozhye dioceses. The monastery received its name in honor of the Christian saint, the Abba, the creator of the Jerusalem charter of Sava the Sanctified.

The Holy Synod of the UOC made a decision to establish a monastery in Melitopol at a meeting in December 1994. Despite its small age, the Melitopol monastery is the oldest in the Melitopol and Zaporozhye dioceses.

First, the abbot-builder of the monastery, Hieromonk Tikhon, organized a monastery at his place of service, in the village of Terpenye. At that time, the number of the fraternity was only a few people. At the beginning of 1995, the monastery was moved to Melitopol, where the construction of the first building, inhabited at the end of 1995, began. On the day of the patronal feast of the monastery - the day of memory of Savva the Sanctified, the first tonsure was performed by the governor Tikhon. In early 2002, a decision was made to expand the monastery church, and the brethren began building a new church. Meanwhile, the service in the old temple did not stop. In October 2005, a new three-altar church was consecrated. In 2007, a baptismal church was built and consecrated. In 2009, a hotel and a training temple were built in the monastery for pilgrims.

The monastery Sunday school is the largest in the city. Also, since 2007, the monastery has a center for people with gambling, alcohol and drug addiction.
