The Melitopol City Park of Culture and Leisure named after M. Gorky is the main city park of Melitopol and a monument of landscape architecture. Of interest is the variety of trees growing in the park, a huge number of exciting rides and the Glade of Fairy Tales. This park area is of great importance in the cultural life of the townspeople.

The park was founded in the 27th year of the last century. The project of the park was drawn up by the chief forester of the Staroberdyansk forestry, Alekseev I., who also provided seedlings for planting. The park was laid out on a vacant lot and all the seven hectares allotted to the park were dug up by hand, for which the entire urban population was connected through the factory and factory trade unions. By 1934, the park increased to 27 hectares., and a summer stage was built on its territory and a playground was equipped.

Three years later, the Melitopol children's railway named after Lazar Kaganovich. This railway boasted not only a steam locomotive and a train of six cars, but also two stations ("Pavlik Morozov" and "Pionerskaya") and a depot. Today only the building of the gymnasium, located in the former premises of the Pionerskaya station, reminds of the railway destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. After the end of the war, the park was restored. In the 60s and 70s. last century, a lot of work was done to improve the park.
