Gorky is the main city park of Melitopol and a monument of landscape architecture. Of interest is the variety of trees growing in the park, a huge number of exciting rides and the Glade of Fairy Tales. This park area is of great importance in the cultural life of the townspeople. The park was founded in the 27th year of the last century. The project of the park was drawn up by the chief forester of the Staroberdyansk forestry, Alekseev I., who also provided seedlings for planting. The park was laid out on a vacant lot and all the seven hectares allotted to the park were dug up by hand, for which the entire urban population was connected through the factory and factory trade unions. By 1934, the park increased to 27 hectares., and a summer stage was built on its territory and a playground was equipped.
