Photo and description

The Kurbatov House is the oldest wooden building in the city of Ivanovo. It was built in 1800. It is located on Postysheva Street, 7.

The house was built by a carpenter and a carver of "manners" (boards with a relief pattern used for printing calico) Vasily Efimovich Kurbatov. He was also involved in the design of the building facade and platbands. In the 1860s, the house was owned by E. Kurbatov.

The house is a residential two-storey log building. It was cut from pine logs "into a castle". It is sheathed along the facade from the side of the streets. At the beginning of the 20th century, the roof was changed. The building is stretched deep into the site. It is represented by a square log house, which faces the street with a facade in three axes of windows, and a smaller one attached to it from the yard, a cold cage with narrow boards along the side facade. These log cabins are covered by a common high gable roof. The roof is plank, the structure is rafter, with gables captured by the plank at the ends.

The architectural decor, in which the influence of classicism is felt, is accentuated on the main facade. The corners of the building with logs under the roof are trimmed with boards for pilasters with thin overhead semi-columns interrupted at 3 levels by chiseled balusters. Similar semi-columns with balusters are used in window frames - with simple bow-shaped ends on the first floor and large rectangular ones on the second.

Particularly expressive on a simple pediment are the beautiful upper platbands with denticles and split sandrids, which are decorated with a hollow grooved carving (emphasizing the age of the casing) in the form of semicircles with rays that diverge to the sides, such as the "sun" - a symbol of sunrise. In the middle of the pediment there is also a rectangular window with a design similar in shape to the lower windows.

A carpentry workshop was located in the basement floor. The upper floor was residential, with floors and a large Russian stove in the hut. The entrance was through the canopy into the cold cage.
