The Hundertwasser House is located in the center of Vienna, but at some distance from the Old Town - for example, the distance to the Hofburg Palace is about two kilometers. You can get to this amazing house by metro, next to it are the Wien Mitte and Rochusgasse stops.

Residential building, not a museum

The house itself is an impressive building made according to the plans of the famous Austrian architect Hundertwasser. It's funny, but this house now functions as a residential and office building, although, of course, it is more popular with tourists due to its unique appearance.

Flight of the architect's imagination

The main distinguishing feature of this house is the fact that that from it - in the literal sense - green spaces grow. Some trees sprouted from the very roof of this low building, and individual plants were even planted in the rooms themselves or in other rooms. The house also features brightly colored facades decorated with glazed tiles, colorful mosaics and ornaments. The whole building is characterized by the absence of straight lines, the wavy outline of the walls and windows of different shapes and sizes. All sorts of materials have been used to create this building, including ceramics, glass and even wood. The construction was completed in 1986. Interestingly, Hundertwasser himself worked for free and refused the fee, citing the fact that he was simply glad that a typical "ugly" city building was not erected on this site. Due to its unique appearance, the Hundertwasser house became a kind of "symbol" of Vienna.
