Dom Ferberow description and photos - Poland: Gdansk. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Dom Ferberow. Photo and descriptionAt 28 Dlugoj Street there is a Renaissance building called the Ferber House, which is covered with many legends. The tall mansion that we see now is a building carefully recreated after the destruction of 1945. Before us is a very accurate reconstruction, so we can imagine how this building looked several centuries ago. However, the builders who repaired this historic building still made a mistake while decorating the facade. As you know, there is a coat of arms on the wall of the house, where you can see the state symbols of Poland and the Prussian Kingdom. The heraldic animals supporting the coats of arms were mixed up, therefore unicorns are adjacent to the coat of arms of the Polish state, and eagles are adjacent to the symbol of Prussia. The mansion in the city center was erected in 1560 by order of Constantine Ferber, who was the son of Eberhard Ferber, who has unlimited power. Eberhard served as the mayor, but everyone called him “King of Danzig” (as Gdansk was called in those days) behind his back. The construction of this house was for Constantine a kind of challenge to his father and a declaration of his independence. Then no one named the new house by the name of the owner. A relief was created on the doors of the house telling about the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise, so the mansion was named "Adam and Eve". It is said that the owner of the house once invited a medium to summon the souls of Adam and Eve. The seance ended in nothing. In honor of this attempt, a drawing appeared on the door. If you go to St. Mary's Church in Gdansk, you will probably pay attention to the bas-relief with the falling boy. A little boy, the son of Konstantin Ferber, somehow fell out of the window of the Adam and Eve mansion due to an oversight of the nanny. He landed in a basket of cabbage, so he was not injured, but this fall became the basis of one of the urban legends. After the death of the last member of the Ferber family, the house was empty for a long time. Local residents believed that ghosts lived in it. Now, as in the old days, it is one of the architectural gems of Gdansk.
