Museum of Fine Arts (Esbjerg Kunstmuseum) description and photos - Denmark: Esbjerg. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Esbjerg Kunstmuseum. Photo and descriptionThe Museum of Fine Arts is located in the Esbjerg City Park, just half a kilometer from its main station. The museum is housed in a striking modern building from 1962. It presents mainly modern Danish fine art. The museum was opened in 1910 and was originally located in the building of the city library. At first, only Danish modernist paintings were exhibited there, including Harald Giersing, Edward Veje, and Wilhelm Lundstrom. In Girsing, his landscapes are especially prominent, in Veje - compositions made in the style of cubism, and Lundstrom's works were largely inspired by the work of Picasso and Cezanne. In 1962, the museum moved to a new building designed by Jutta and Ovo Tapdrup ... It's built on the side of a hill towering over the port area. It is curious that at the top of this hill is the famous symbol of Esbjerg - the water tower of the late 19th century. The building itself consists of several asymmetrical floors with numerous balconies due to the location of the building. At the same time, the museum acquired a collection of sculptures by the famous abstractionist Robert Jacobsen and canvases by the surrealist expressionist Richard Mortensen. Also in the Esbjerg Museum of Fine Arts are members of the avant-garde movement COBRA, which found inspiration in primitive and folk art in equal measure. Particularly distinguished are the works of Asger Jorn, the founder of abstract expressionism, who was also fond of artistic ceramics, woodcarving, the creation of prints and collages. It is also worth noting the works of the contemporary artist Mikael Quium, a supporter of a realistic direction in art, which sometimes even goes beyond the framework of the grotesque. In 1997, the Esbjerg Museum of Fine Arts was merged with the city concert hall. The new building is made of glass and ceramics, and the main facade is supported by interesting mushroom-shaped columns.
