Cape Galata is one of the main attractions and symbols of Varna. It is located in a picturesque place in the northeastern part of the Avren plateau, about four kilometers from Varna Lake, on the Black Sea coast. The cape is located next to the Galata area, Fichoza and Pasha dere beaches. It is surrounded by deciduous forest and fields, below there is a clean, rocky beach in places.

Galata is famous for its lighthouse, which is one of the main navigational objects on the Bulgarian coast. The first lighthouse on the cape was commissioned on August 15, 1863. In 1912, a hundred meters from the old lighthouse, a new one was built. Many ships entered the port safely thanks to the light of his lantern. In 2001, near the second lighthouse, which was suspended due to the risk of landslides, the third, modern, 22 meters high and equipped with an elevator was erected. Since 1968, the panoramic restaurant Galatea has been adjacent to the lighthouse. Everyone who has visited it will agree that this place is one of the most romantic, in addition, it offers a beautiful view of the beaches of Varna and the sea.

The name of the cape is associated with an old legend about Galatea: to the beautiful Galatea the Cyclops Polyphemus fell in love, but the girl rejected his love, because she was in love with the young Akida. The enraged Polyphemus spied on the lovers, tore off a piece of rock from the mountain and crushed his opponent with it. The blood of her beloved, which flowed from under the rock, Galatea turned into a river.
