The opening took place on July 6, 1997. This house is part of a museum complex in Vitebsk dedicated to Marc Chagall. The second museum is the Marc Chagall Art Center. It contains paintings and graphics by Marc Chagall, exhibitions of contemporary artists are held. This house on Pokrovskaya Street was built by the artist's father at the beginning of the 20th century. A new brick house was built next to the old wooden one. Previously, there were several more wooden buildings in the courtyard, which, alas, have not survived to this day. Marc Chagall subsequently wrote about the years of his youth spent in his home home in his autobiographical book "My Life". The interior of the house was recreated according to the works of Marc Chagall and archival documents. Yuri Chernyak supervised the reconstruction work. The museum contains authentic things that belonged to the Chagall family at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as household items of that time. The museum exposition demonstrates the life of the artist's family. The restored rooms are represented: "Kitchen", "Living room", "Grocery store", "Boys' room", "Red room". There is a monument to the artist in the backyard of the house-museum. An old carriage is picturesquely located here. About 300 works by Marc Chagall are kept here. Every year, on his birthday, July 6, the most unusual holiday takes place here, during which the heroes of Chagall's art appear before visitors in theatrical performances. The holiday is called "Visiting Mark and Bela".
