Vitebsk Art Museum is a branch of the regional museum of local lore. It was created on January 31, 1992.

The building, which now houses the museum, was built in the style of late classicism in 1883 by the architect L. Kaminsky. Until 1917, the district court worked there. In 1917, the military revolutionary committee was located here. During the Soviet era, this building housed the regional committee of the Communist Party of Belarus.

The total area of the museum is 1668 square meters, of which permanent expositions are occupied by museum expositions and exhibitions. Museum collections number over 11 thousand items. Among them are paintings, graphics, icons, sculptures, works of decorative and applied art.

Now the museum has permanent exhibitions: Belarusian art of the XVIII - mid. XIX centuries; Russian painting and decorative and applied arts of the late 18th - early 19th centuries; A collection of works by Yehuda Pen (an outstanding Belarusian painter and teacher, the first teacher of Marc Chagall); Works of Belarusian artists, teachers and students of the Vitebsk Art College; Works of Vitebsk artists of the 1960-1980s. Painting; Collection of works by Pyotr Yavich (Belarusian painter of the 20th century, student of Yehuda Pen); A collection of works by Felix Gumen (a Belarusian painter of our day, who has received world recognition).

The museum also presents an interesting collection of works by Belarusian lace-makers of the XIX century, Russian and European porcelain of the XVIII-XX centuries. The museum regularly organizes exhibitions, meetings with artists, excursions.
