Most of them are architectural monuments; there are also archaeological and historical sites in the city. One of the main attractions of Vitebsk is the Annunciation Church. It is an ancient temple, built in the 12th century, the first stone church in the city and a monument of ancient Russian architecture. The Annunciation Church was erected using the original construction technique.  Of other churches, the Holy Protection Cathedral is certainly interesting, which was built at the beginning of the 19th century by Catholic monks. Later it was converted into an Orthodox church. Vitebsk City Hall is considered a peculiar symbol of the city. It was built at the end of the 18th century, and its architecture combines the styles of Baroque and Classicism. Previously it served as a watchtower for firefighters, later the town hall was used as an administrative building, now it houses the regional museum of local lore. On a tour of the museum, it is interesting to look at the collection of coins, various works of art, church and archaeological finds, birch bark letters, weapons, embroidery, porcelain, Masonic symbols and much more. Not far from the town hall, tourists usually visit the Yang Peng Art School building, which became famous all over the world for taking part in the creation of such a direction in art as Soviet post-impressionism.
