Photo and description

Black Lake is a unique reservoir in the territory of the Durmitor National Park, located near Zabljak, which is part of an ecosystem of 18 unique glacial lakes. It is located 1416 meters above sea level on the mountain slopes of Medied. The area of the reservoir is 516 thousand square meters, and its maximum length is 1555 meters.

In fact, Black Lake is two isolated lakes, Big and Small, which are connected by a narrow channel. In spring, tourists manage to catch the moment when water flows from one lake to another, creating a picturesque waterfall. In summer, the channel dries up and both lakes exist separately from each other.

The shores of Black Lake are thickets of dense coniferous forest, which, reflected in the water, gives it that characteristic "black" color, for which the lake was named Black. Nevertheless, the water is so transparent that the lake can be seen up to 9 meters deep in calm weather. Locals nicknamed this lake "Mountain Eyes" or "Mountain Eyes".

The spring flood also marks changes in several more water bodies in Montenegro. The large lake, having made an impressive path in the bowels of the earth, turns into the right tributary of the Tara River. The waters of the Small Lake flow first into Komarnitsa, then into the Piva River, and then into the Drina. It is noteworthy that the Drina River was previously the natural border between the East Roman and West Roman empires.

Even in summer, the water in Black Lake is cool enough for swimming, while in winter the lake is covered with a dense crust of ice. Nevertheless, towards the end of summer, the water warms up to a quite tolerable temperature of about 20 degrees above zero, and there are a lot of people who want to swim in the cleanest lake.

Many hiking starts from the lake shore, and comfortable benches are set up along the hiking trail that surrounds the lake. In addition, fishing is allowed near the Black Lake.

Also at the Black Lake there is a restaurant of the same name with national Montenegrin cuisine, where you can taste skillfully prepared dishes from fresh fish.

For tourists, the entrance to the Black Lake is paid, you can get here from Kotor , Petrovac, Budva or Tivat.
