The oldest religious building in the city of Mirgorod, whose history is more than 350 years old, is a local architectural monument - the Assumption Church, which is located on Gogol Street, 112.

According to historical references, the construction of the church began in 1648 by order of the famous colonel of the Zaporozhye army M. Gladky. The temple was being built quite quickly, and soon its construction was completed. The wooden church was consecrated and named Cathedral of the Assumption, after which it became the main church of the regimental city of Mirgorod.

After a while, the church burned down. In the early 1880s. thanks to the efforts of A. Zubkovsky, the restoration of the temple began. The construction of the church was completed in 1887, two years after the death of her benefactor. In 1914, the construction of the resort began near the temple.

Father R. Shafransky was the first rector of the Assumption Church. In the 20s. the archpriest of the cathedral was N. Bazilevsky, who died tragically in 1926. From 1937 to 1941 the temple was closed. After the temple resumed its work, services were held there until 1957. Later, the church was closed and destroyed again: the bell tower, the domes were destroyed, the iconostasis was dismantled and dismantled, unique murals and frescoes were painted over. The church was first used as a warehouse for a mineral water plant, and later - as a drinking pump room for vacationers in the resort. Only in 1990, at the request of believers in the city, the building of the temple was transferred to the religious community.

Since 1990, the Assumption Church has been constantly improving. The bell tower was rebuilt, bells were installed and a carved wooden iconostasis for the temple was purchased. The walls and ceiling of the church painted by the artist V. Tkachenko amaze with their beauty. The church has a Sunday school and an Orthodox library.
