Photo and descriptionThe Museum of Ceramics of the city of Mirgorod, Poltava Region, is located in the former old building of the Mirgorod Ceramic College at 146 Gogol Street. The Mirgorod State Ceramic College was created in 1896 as an art and craft school named after N.V. Gogol, which produced masters for the manufacture of terracotta, pottery, earthenware, porcelain and majolica products. The original building of the Museum of Ceramics is made in the style of the French Renaissance. The exposition of the museum has existed at the school from the first years of its creation. Here were collected such unique values as: Chinese, Iranian, Italian, Japanese and French ceramics, Wedgwood, Meissen, Copenhagen porcelain (XVIII - early XX century), Ukrainian faience of Kamenny Brod and Mizhhirya. The basis of the composition of the Mirgorod Museum of Ceramics was made up of 20 large compositions by sculptors E. Falcone, A. Adamson and F. Gordeev, which were transferred to the museum from the Imperial Porcelain Factory by order of Tsar Nicholas II. In the 20s. the museum was headed by the famous artist and art critic A. Slation. With his participation, samples of Ukrainian folk pottery, embroidery and weaving were received. The museum contains the works of the teachers of the technical school and its pupils, since 1896. Seven rooms of the museum are filled with numerous works of graduate students, including: dishes, vases, jewelry, various household items made of ceramics, decorative panels, dishes, small plastic and much more. There is also a unique majolica iconostasis from 1902 from the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Mirgorod. Today the Museum of Ceramics of the city of Mirgorod is one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine.
