Photo and descriptionThe Vvedenskaya church located in Feodosia is the oldest architectural monument of the city. It is very famous and popular among city visitors and local people. According to historical and archaeological materials, the Greek church was built from the seventh to the ninth centuries. The temple consists of several structures that were built at different times. The most ancient is its Byzantine part. It is a small hall-type church. The lower part of the bell tower itself consists of four pillars, which are covered by a very beautiful dome on sails, and belongs to buildings of a later period. This part of the building was the entrance portico. In 1829, a three-aisled part of the building was erected, which connected the bell tower with the ancient part of the church. This building still exists today. In the same year, the gaps were laid between the pillars of the entrance portico. A tier was built above the portico to house the bells. In the ancient part of the church, in a box vault, a light drum with tents was arranged. The interior of the church was decorated with frescoes and beautiful graceful work - stone carving. Previously, the Vvedenskaya church was run by the Greek community of the city of Feodosia. According to old residents, the services in this church were conducted in two languages: Greek and Russian. There was a school in the courtyard of the temple, and housing for the priest was located. The church stopped working in the 30s of the twentieth century. It was closed, like many other temples. The large dome together with the bell tower were demolished. The church has been misused for the past ten years. The rich decoration of the temple was lost irretrievably. A gym was set up in the building. In 1993 the dome was re-installed on the temple and restored. Currently, the Vvedenskaya Church is active.
