Photo and description

Temple of Nostra Signora del Boschettora is located on Via Enrico Figari in the resort town of Camogli on the shores of the Paradiso Bay. This temple has long been a cult place for the believers of Camogli and the surrounding settlements, because, according to legend, it was built on the very place where the Virgin Mary appeared to the shepherdess Angela Schiaffino on July 2, 1518. First, a small chapel was erected here, which between 1612 and 1631 was replaced by the current temple and monastery. In 1818 - the year of the three hundredth anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin - Pope Pius VII bestowed a miraculous icon on the Nostra Signora del Boschetto temple. And in 1955, Pope Pius XII declared Madonna del Boschetto one of Camogli's patrons. Today the church houses a unique collection of gifts made by local residents on a votive basis.

The Temple of Nostra Signora del Boschetto consists of three naves, decorated in the Baroque style, and its vault is painted with frescoes depicting a scene of the appearance of the Virgin Mary. The church's own choir is named after the former abbot Don Piero Benvenuto.

At the entrance to the temple there is an ancient elm tree, which has survived despite the recent restoration of a small square in front of the church. On the same square, by the way, you can see fragments of an old building, possibly the very first chapel built in honor of the apparition of the Virgin Mary.
