Photo and description

The Lofotr Viking Museum is a history museum located in the village of Borg, which was once a Viking settlement. As a result of archaeological excavations, the 83-meter dwelling of their leader Ottar, about 9 m high, was recreated. The longest horizontal structure with external pebble and turf walls, fireplaces, rooms with dimly flickering lamps will immerse you in the harsh atmosphere of that era.

Traditional boar dinners are held here from June 15 to August 1 to attract tourists. and lambs. Mead infused with herbs is served as drinks in bowls. Visitors are served by guides in national costumes. Group excursions are organized by reservation.

The Vikings became famous not only as invaders and destroyers, but also as travelers and merchants. Chief Ottar from trade travels brought precious metals, luxury goods, wine, wheat in exchange for furs of martens, foxes, polar bears, as well as whetstones and ironmongery. The Vikings went on trade expeditions in their ships. One of these ships - "Lofotr" - has been reconstructed and put on display for tourists coming to Borg.
