Photo and description

The Gio Bono Ferrari Maritime Museum is located about 34 km from Genoa, in the resort town of Camogli, just behind the train station. It was created back in 1937 and is named after its founder, the researcher of the marine ecosystems of the Ligurian coast, Gio Bono Ferrari.

The museum contains exhibits that tell about the three hundred year history of navigation in Camogli - paintings, photographs, ship models, documents dating from the era of the Napoleonic wars and the period of the First World War, and much more. In total, 178 images of Camogli's floating facilities are collected here, 146 ship models, including unique ships in bottles, 603 publications dedicated to marine topics, navigational instruments such as compasses, barometers, telescopes, antique chronometers, as well as photographs of ships and sailors. Unique exhibits are items that were owned by the national hero of Italy, Giuseppe Garibaldi and his followers. The Maritime Museum is a memorable place for all residents of Camogli, and each of its exhibits is provided with a plate with interesting stories about those who preserved it and donated it to the city.

You can get to the museum in different ways: by car - along the Genova-Livorno highway, by train - from Camogli-San Fruttuoso station, by bus - from any locality in eastern Liguria. From spring to autumn, you can also get to the museum by taking a ferry from Genoa, Rapallo, Santa Margarita Ligure and other towns of the Riviera di Levante. Guided tours of the museum are available in English, French and Spanish.
