Photo and description

One of the largest landmarks in Egypt is the famous pyramid of Djoser. This ancient structure was built by Imhotep in 2650 BC. as the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Djoser. Initially, the architect planned to erect an ordinary one-level tomb, but during the construction it was decided to create a stepped structure so that the soul of the pharaoh who rested here could rise to heaven along these steps. The pyramid of Djoser is believed to be the first pyramid in human history.

The pyramid is the central object of the burial complex in Sakkara, with a total area of about 15 hectares. You can get into the inner part of the pyramid through a narrow door located on its eastern side. Initially, the step pyramid was 60 m high, today the height of the structure is about 58.7 m. The scale of the pyramid has changed somewhat due to the huge number of alterations and additions. According to historical data, the Djoser complex, including the step pyramid, underwent a major reconstruction during the Sais period (26-28 dynasties).

From the inside, the pyramid is a huge 10x12 m mine with numerous tunnels. Particular attention should be paid to the design features of the interior of the structure, which is based on this giant mine. From its eastern side, at a certain distance, workers broke through 11 additional vertical shafts connected by tunnels. The shaft planes are very well executed, the corners are even and straight. All the other numerous tunnels were dug much later using the most primitive technologies. These are mines with equipped tombs for officials of the 24-28 dynasty.

Today the famous pyramid of Djoser in Sakkara is one of the main attractions of the city, which is of particular interest to tourists.
