Stavanger is the center of Norwegian oil production, so it should come as no surprise that the Norwegian Petroleum Museum is open here. In this modern and exciting interactive museum, you can learn how oil is formed in the bowels of the earth, how it is mined and refined, what it is used for and how the refining industry plays a role in Norwegian society. The museum has a souvenir shop where you can buy unusual gifts for your loved ones, as well as a cafe offering original snacks during the day and gourmet meals in the evening.

Stavanger was once a major fishing center - the world's only Canned Food Museum tells about this. opened in the building of a former cannery.
