The Bogota Cathedral was consecrated in honor of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and is located on the main square of the city - Plaza Bolivar. The first stone church on this site was erected in the late 16th - early 17th centuries. In the first quarter of the 19th century, the cathedral was rebuilt in the classicist style. The chapel of St. Elizabeth of Hungary (patroness of the city) houses the sarcophagus of the founder of Bogota - Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada.
