He is a continuer of the old traditions of the theater on Vasilievsky, which was opened in 1756 and whose first director was the famous Russian writer A.P. Sumarokov. The history of modern theater began in 1989, when the administrator of the famous "Secret" beat quartet V. Slovokhotov proposed to create a new theater studio. The first season of the theater was opened by the vaudeville "Love in Three", which to this day is a great success on stage and is the mascot of the troupe. Soon the studio separated from "Secret" and became an independent theater, which received the official name "Theater of Satire on Vasilievsky Island" (St. Petersburg Drama Theater on Vasilyevsky). From that day on, Vladimir Slovokhotov headed the team, becoming the permanent head of the theater. Famous directors successfully cooperate with the troupe of the theater on Vasilievsky: Roman Viktyuk, Rezo Gabriadze, Igor Larin and others. For many actors, the stage of this theater became their debut. Svetlana Svirko, Aleksey Yankovsky, Adrian Rostovsky, Oleg Sologubov began their professional careers here. For four years in a row, from 2002 to 2006, the Satire Theater on Vasilievsky became home to the participants of the Teatralny Ostrov international festival, within the framework of which the small festival Puppet Island was opened in the days of which children from orphanages could attend puppet shows, take part in master classes. In 2006, a club was opened in the branch of the theater, which is located on Maly Avenue, No. 49, where installations, exhibitions, performances were held. From 2007 to 2011, the theater on Vasilievsky was headed by the Polish director Andrzej Buben. With his passage, the repertoire was replenished with works of a philosophical nature, cutting-edge plays. For the theater on Vasilievsky, the 2010-2011 season was a major breakthrough - the play "Daniel Stein, Translator" received an award from the Russian government and was presented at the events of the European Theatrical award, took part in the program "Russia-Spain", showing the play "Vaudeville" on the stage of the Toledo theater, participated in the festival in the Baltic countries, participated in the Vilnius "Christmas evenings". The play "Children of the Sun" (directed by V. Tumanov) was nominated for the "Golden Sofit". Now the St. Petersburg State Theater of Satire is headed by Vladimir Tumanov. The main reference point of the creative team is classics, outstanding examples of European drama. There are rehearsals of the performances "Uncle Vanya", "Death of Pazukhin" (based on the play by ME Saltykov-Shchedrin).
