The museum was opened in 1997 and immediately became very popular. The exposition consists of several sections. Life in Leeds during the Victorian era recreates the urban slums of the time - pictures, sounds and smells. How did people live and what were they sick at that time? How were they treated and what kind of treatment could they afford? Other exhibitions are devoted to the history of surgery, how anesthesia and antiseptic revolutionized surgery; children's health care; talks in detail about how scientists tried to understand what causes disease, and how disease-causing bacteria were discovered. The Wilkinson Gallery is dedicated to drugs and the history of pharmacology. In this room you can see different containers, vessels and flasks in which medicines were stored and prepared. The Live Zone is an interactive children's gallery where children can learn interesting facts about the human body and how it works. Here they will be told how to stay healthy and vigorous, here you can touch everything, run and jump.
