Photo and description

The House of Arts is a museum of international contemporary art in Bregenz, the capital of the Austrian federal state Vorarlberg. The museum is one of the most prominent galleries of contemporary art in Europe in terms of the richness and originality of the exhibition programs.

The House of Arts was built in 1996 according to the project of the Swiss architect Peter Zumtoron on a government order. The impressive four-story museum building is located in the "Lower City" near the lake.

One of the main galleries of contemporary art is a fine example of architectural minimalism. The building is made in the form of a glass cube resting on a metal base with concrete walls inside. The facade consists of glass panels of equal size. The spatial concept assumes the presence of daylight in all areas of the museum. The exhibition halls are located on an area of 1,880 square meters. The interior is dominated by unpainted concrete. On the ground floor there are cash desks, a foyer, and a small exhibition area of 500 square meters. The upper floors feature high ceilings, each of which can be used as one large space or reduced with mobile partitions, depending on the project. All of these thoughtful interiors are great places for art installations.

The House of Arts not only hosts international exhibitions and projects, but also contributes to the formation of the cultural identity of its region by exhibiting young professionals at regional exhibitions. Examples are the work of Gottfried Bechtold, Silvretta, Jenny Holzer,
