The fortress was built in the 10th century. In 1338, Hugh de Montfort was the owner of the fortress. In the middle of the 15th century, after the death of the last representative of the Montfort clan, Sigismund of Tyrol acquired these lands. In the middle of the 17th century, General Wrangel's Swedish troops destroyed the fortress, after which it was not restored. A gate, a fortress wall, one of the towers and walls of the castle have survived to this day. In 1723, a chapel was built on the top of the mountain, consecrated in honor of Saints George and Herbhard. Nowadays, the chapel is often visited by pilgrims.
