Photo and description

The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the city of Mozyr is one of the most unusual temples in Belarus. The very history of this building is unusual. In the 19th century, a wooden Orthodox three-domed church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker stood on this site. The church was active until 1922, when it was demolished.

After the October Revolution, during the struggle against religious cults, the church fell under demolition. In its place, it was decided to build a DOSAAF building. This three-story brick building was erected in the spirit of constructivism and has the shape of a cocked gun bolt. The peculiarities of the landscape also make the building unusual. The building is built on a hillside. You can climb to the house by the beautiful stone stairs.

During the Soviet era, what was this strange house. At one time, there was even a local registry office. In 1993 the building was handed over to Orthodox believers. It was decided to make a church out of it in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, for which the church domes-onions were built.

Repairs in the temple were completed in 1995. In 1996, the temple was consecrated with the episcopal rank. Now it is a functioning Orthodox church.

The church carries out a lot of educational activities among the parishioners. Believers study the Holy Scriptures and patristic heritage, conduct spiritual conversations. The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a great example of how the most inappropriate buildings can become magnificent churches. Currently, visiting this church is included in pilgrimage trips around Belarus.
