Holy Transfiguration Church description and photos - Belarus: Lyuban. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Transfiguration Church in Lyuban was built in 1994. The construction of this church was truly popular. As soon as it became known that there would be no persecution of believing Christians, an Orthodox community spontaneously emerged in Lyuban, which itself elected the headman and activists. People went from house to house, collected donations for the temple, bought building materials, and built the church themselves. The site on which the temple was built was donated by the local collective farm - there was a collective farm garden. The first church was wooden, later it was lined with bricks, and a dome was installed on it. On January 19, 2000, the first church burned down in a fire. A brick church in the pseudo-Russian style was built in its place. The mention of the first Orthodox church in Lyuban dates back to 1707. In 1863 in Lyuban there was a wooden church in the place where the city executive committee is now. A parish school was established at the church. This church burned down in 1941 during the battles with the Nazi troops. Currently, the chapel of the Transfiguration Church has been built, and a Sunday school is being built. The Lyuban Orthodox community lives an interesting life. More and more young people and children come to church. Despite its youth, the Lyuban Transfiguration Church is famous far beyond the borders of the country. Pilgrims come to it, those who have long left their hometown visit. So, a native of Lyuban, Tatyana Kutsevich, who lives in St. Petersburg, recently presented the icon of the Mother of God “I am with you, and no one is with you” to the temple of her native city.
