The Kota area is a small old area in Jakarta. It is also called Old Jakarta or Old Batavia. Kota is translated from the Indonesian language as "city".

The Kota district is a historical district, it serves as a reminder of the colonial times of the 16th century, when Kota was the only city located in Batavia and was walled, while there were villages (Kampungi), orchards and rice fields. It was in Kota that the Dutch settled and built their city.
