JSC RUTA is the oldest company in Lithuania, which specializes in the production of sweets of various types, shapes and tastes.

The historical development of the factory began in 1913 in the city of Siauliai. It was at this time that Antanas Gricevicius equipped a boiler for boiling caramel in a small room. The pioneers of the new enterprise were the owners of the rue - Antanas Gricevicius and his wife Jozefa. The owner of the factory studied confectionery in the city of Siauliai, and he also attended classes in St. Petersburg and Vilnius. As soon as the first candies from Gricevicius appeared, almost all sweet tooths liked them.

Over time, the candy factory grew in size and achievement, and by 1923, several additional brick buildings were built, while, production expanded and improved at a rapid pace. The enterprise reached its main flourishing in the interwar period: then the factory employed about 160 workers and produced about 300 different types of sweets. The sweets produced by the RUTA factory were very popular due to the quality of the raw materials and the products themselves.

The extraordinary talent of the confectioners was highly appreciated not only at local, but also at international competitions and exhibitions of the Land Economy and Industry of Lithuania in 1922, In 1926 and 1930 in the city of Kaunas and in 1928 in Siauliai, gold medals were won. In 1929 the main prize and the gold medal were won in Italy, and in 1931 the gold medal was won in England.

In the period from 1940 to 1993, the factory was a state-owned enterprise. After the independence of Lithuania was restored, the former factory buildings, located on an area of 5 thousand square meters. meters were again transferred to the hands of the A. Gricevicius family. In autumn 2002, the RUTA factory of entrepreneur A. Gricevicius was transformed into a closed joint stock company. The candy factory was being restored rather slowly, although successfully, which required a lot of creativity, effort and patience of production workers.

At the moment, the RUTA enterprise is a well-known enterprise that carries not only old traditions, but also finds place of modern latest technology. The company can rightfully be proud of its long history of existence, as well as its well-deserved honorary name. RUTA is now a medium-sized enterprise with 240 employees, which work in seven workshops for the production of sweets, as well as a microbiological and technological laboratory, which are responsible for checking the quality of raw materials, semi-finished products and directly finished products. There are eleven brand shops of the factory in the largest cities of Lithuania.

RUTA plays an important role in building the assortment of the economic market. The production has unique recipes and original products. In its country, the factory is known under a brand that cares about the health of consumers of its products, using a large amount of natural plant materials in its formulations, represented by fruits, berries, bee products and other raw materials.
