The Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary can be considered one of the most famous religious buildings, city landmark, the pearl of Mukachevo, which is part of its richest architectural heritage.

The church was built in the 19th century thanks to the initiative of the famous scientist of Transcarpathia V. Dovgovich. The temple became not only a spiritual abode for Catholics, but also a majestic decoration of the city. Simple, with strict, straight, clear lines and forms, the church with a high bell tower facing the sky, crowned with an umbrella-shaped dome, embodies the power of God. The external decoration of the temple is modest, discreet, but this simplicity is compensated for by its monumentality, scale, and it is these qualities that make the building very impressive and memorable.

An unconventional detail is the clock installed above the main entrance in the bell tower. These watches were made in Munich at the beginning of the 19th century, and to this day they regularly follow the inexorable course of time. The architectural complex of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary includes a sculpture depicting the Virgin with the Child in her arms, installed on the right side in front of the building. This delightful, pacifying sculpture symbolizes prosperity and goodness for the townspeople, flowers invariably lie at its feet.
