The Town Hall in Bamberg is a very important historical building. It is located in the middle of a small artificial island on the Regnitz River. It is connected to the land due to two bridges, which are called the Lower and the Upper.

The first historical mention of this town hall dates back to the end of the XIV century, and legend explains such an unusual choice of the location of the building. After the next protest of the townspeople against the power of the bishop in Bamberg, there was a strong fire, as a result of which the town hall completely burned down. The bishop was so angry that he forbade the residents to erect a new building on their land. Then the residents of the city used their ingenuity and decided to bypass the ban of the authorities. It is for this reason that an artificial island was created on the river, where later a new town hall was built.

Over time, the building has undergone many changes and restructuring. For example, in the 15th century it was restored in the Gothic style, and already in the 18th century, thanks to the works of Johann Jakob Kuchel, it acquired a modern baroque look. At the same time, the artist Johann Anwander worked on the facade of the town hall, whose works can be seen not only on the vaults of the building, but also in niches, on columns.

The interior of the Town Hall has preserved the Meeting Room, which appeared here in the middle of the 18th century. It currently houses the largest collection of porcelain and faience in Germany. The Town Hall, since 1993, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a beautiful and rather unusual building, made in several styles, open to all comers. There is a museum on the territory of the town hall.
