Photo and descriptionAl Fahiji Fort was built in 1799 to protect the city from the sea and is the largest fort in Dubai. At various times, the fort served as the ruler's residence, barracks and prison. Now the National Museum is located here. The upper exposition of the museum tells about military history and the history of the city's development. Under the oldest tower there is an underground exhibition of the museum. Colorful dioramas, life-size figures, sound and light effects represent the life of Dubai in the pre-oil era. The galleries recreate the former appearance of the Bay, traditional Arab houses, mosques, bazaar, date groves, episodes from the life of the inhabitants of the desert and the sea coast.
