Photo and descriptionThe Chelyabinsk Regional Museum of Local Lore is a unique treasury of the spiritual, historical and cultural heritage of the Chelyabinsk Region. The history of the Regional Museum of Local Lore began in 1913, when a group of enthusiasts led the famous scientist geographer I.M. Krasheninnikova began collecting museum collections. In the fall of 1919, after the end of the Civil War, I.G. Gorokhov, who eventually became its first director. Already by 1920, extensive materials on geology, mineralogy were collected, as well as archaeological, numismatic and osteological collections. In July 1923, the official opening of the local history museum took place. Without its own building, the museum from 1929 to 1933 was housed in different rooms. From 1933 to 1989, its expositions were located in the former building of the Holy Trinity Church. Since 1989, it has been located on the first floor of a residential building on Lenin Avenue. Currently, the museum is located in its own building on the Miass embankment, built in 2006. The museum building is located in the place where the first half of the XVIII century. the fortress of Chelyabinsk was founded. It is no coincidence that the exterior of the building resembles fortress walls and towers. Today the building of the Chelyabinsk Regional Museum of Local Lore is considered one of the most beautiful architectural structures in the city. The museum has three halls with a permanent exhibition that tell about the history and nature of the Southern Urals. In addition, the building houses a unique Rooftop Museum, Children's Museum, small and large halls of changing exhibitions, a library, a museum and exhibition center, an amazing rock garden and two beautiful viewing platforms. Today, the museum's funds have more than 300 thousand storage units, including items that are of national importance. The museum presents small and large collections of various trends, for example, objects of ancient Russian art of the 18th-20th centuries, objects of church painting of the 19th-20th centuries, works of graphic artists of the Chelyabinsk region, as well as the largest expositions of sculpture of the 18th-20th centuries, products of applied arts, archeology, numismatics, ethnography and more.
