Photo and description

In the heart of the city's shopping district lies the Lake of the Returned Sword. It was formed on the site of the old channel of the Red River, which now flows somewhat to the north.

In the middle of the lake there is a turtle called the "Temple of the Turtle" (Tuap Joa) and with which an old legend is connected, which tells about the Vietnamese hero of the 15th century Le Loi. Once he was fishing here, but found a magic sword. With this sword, Le Loi led a rebellion against the Chinese rulers. When the hero came to the lake to thank the local spirits for the victory won, the magic sword slipped out of his hands and fell into the water, where he was caught by a huge golden turtle. Later, the Turtle Temple was built.

Nearby is the Temple of the Jade Mountain (Dan Ngoc Son), home to a giant turtle caught in 1968. The temple was built in the XIV century and was rebuilt several times, the last time in the XIX century. Here they honor the commander Chan Hung Dao, who defeated the Mongol conquerors in the 13th century, Wang Swong - the patron saint of writers, La To - the patron saint of doctors and martial arts master Kuang Wu.

In the park by the lake, you can sit in a cafe or visit theater on the water.
