Photo and description

The Moscow Operetta Theater, or the State Academic Theater "Moscow Operetta", is located on B. Dmitrovka Street, next to Teatralnaya Square. It is adjacent to the famous theaters - Bolshoi and Maly.

The theater was founded in 1927 by Grigory Yaron, a famous director and actor. From the day of its foundation to the present day, the theater occupies a dominant place in the genre of operetta not only in Russia, but also in Europe.

The theater building was built in the 19th century and is an architectural monument. The first owners of the building were the Shcherbatov princes. From them, the building on Bolshaya Dmitrovka passed to the merchants Solodovnikovs. With their participation and with the help of artists at the beginning of the twentieth century, a theater and concert hall was equipped in the building. It has become one of the best halls in Moscow.

Today the theater stage is a perfect combination of classical hall decor and modern sound and light equipment. The cozy burgundy velvet hall is richly decorated with gilding, and the ceiling plafond is decorated with beautiful paintings by Konstantin Korovin. The hall is unique in style and has a capacity of 1600 seats.

Thanks to its excellent troupe, the theater maintains its status as the leading theater in its genre today. The repertoire of the theater includes classical operetta (Strauss, Offenbach, Lehar, Bernstein, Kalman), musicals and shows, as well as modern operetta. During the "season" the theater hosts about three hundred performances.

During the period of its existence, "Moscow Operetta" has created and released about 250 new performances. The theater's performances are of great interest to critics and are extremely popular with the audience. The creators of the performances are working on a modern interpretation of classical operettas, participating in the development of Russian operetta, working on works of the Soviet period.
