The Dominican monastery of Santorini is located in the very center of the city and harmoniously fits into the Catholic quarters of Fira, the capital of the island. The monastery was founded in 1596. The monastery was originally located in Skaros, but moved to Fira in 1811, after the inhabitants left the castle and moved to the island.

On a relatively small area, there is one of the most important institutions of the island, where the sisters of mercy lived in the past. Before the earthquake in 1956, the site housed a school, hospital and surgery department. Today part of the monastery has been restored, it houses a guest house, a workshop for the production of handmade carpets and the offices of the Catholic parish of the island. The monastery is home to twelve hermits from different countries. Inside the monastery there is a church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Baroque features of the building and decoration are closely intertwined with Cycladic elements. The winding street that runs through the territory of the monastery will provide an opportunity to see the territory from the inside and hear the evening singing of the nuns.
