Photo and description

The snow-white church in Fira, Santorini is located in the lower part of the city and is visible from a great distance from many areas.

The largest Orthodox cathedral in Santorini was erected in 1827. Its courtyard offers a stunning panorama overlooking the volcano and the caldera. In 1956, the building was damaged during a devastating natural disaster, but was soon completely renovated. This is a beautiful temple with a magnificent mosaic decoration on the outside and an imposing bell tower. A feature of the complex is the rows of white arches that form the space of a quiet courtyard. The inside of the church is decorated with beautiful frescoes by the local artist Khristoforos
Asimis.
