Water tower description and photos - Russia - Baltics: Zelenogradsk. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe water tower is one of the sights of Zelenogradsk. The tower, which is about 40 m high, was erected in 1905 in the style of historical eclecticism. At that time, almost every major settlement in the region had a water tower, which is one of the dominant heights of the city and a city symbol. After a while, the tower was no longer used for its intended purpose. During the Soviet years, the local authorities made attempts to restore the tower both as a hydraulic engineering structure and as an architectural monument. By 2000, the famous dome, which housed the storage tank of the tower, became completely unusable and posed a threat to those around. Unfortunately, the original stucco decoration of the building has also been lost. From 2006 to 2012 a modern reconstruction of the water tower was carried out. The work was carried out at the expense of the owner of the building, Moscow businessman Andrey Trubitsin. The facade of the building was also updated, the crown of the octagonal base was strengthened and the dome was completely replaced. During the reconstruction, special attention was paid to the preservation of all the historical elements of the building: side rustication, entrance lobby, forging, stucco decorations. In addition, work was carried out to protect the old brickwork. There is an elevator in the water tower, which will help to climb all levels of the building. The dome of the tower today houses a two-level penthouse with an area of 110 sq. m. The penthouse consists of two tiers, in the first of which there is a kitchen and a living room, and in the second - a bedroom. The interior of the penthouse was developed by Moscow designers.
