Nikolaevskaya Shukhovskaya water tower was designed by engineer V. Shukhov. This design was used for the first time in the world for a municipal water supply system.

The question of the construction of a water tower in Nikolaev arose in 1904, a project was prepared that belonged to the author of the city water supply and sewerage system Viktor Weber and engineer L. Rode, who served as the secretary of the water supply commission. After studying the project, the water supply commission considered it unprofitable and held a competition for the design and manufacture of another reinforced concrete object. Subsequently, a construction contract was signed with the Moscow plant. In March 1907, the water tower was connected to the city water supply network, and from that time its operation began. The tower worked for 37 years, until, during the retreat in 1944, it was blown up by German troops. After the liberation of the city, the tower was successfully restored, and it continued to function until 1958.

With the commissioning of the Ingulets water pipeline, the need to use the Shukhov water tower has disappeared. Today the tower is a local historical and cultural monument.
