Photo and description

The Transfiguration Church is located near the city park on Moskovskaya Street. Zelenogradsk, former Krantz, managed to preserve not only the spirit of the German era, but also magnificent architecture. Today, the active Transfiguration Church is striking in its western authenticity.

The church community of the former Krantz was founded in 1877. Construction of the Lutheran Church of St. Adalbert began in August 1896. Its solemn consecration took place in November 1897. The author of the building project was the architect Launir.

The temple is built of red brick with a Gothic tower on the north side, 42 meters high. On the south side there was an altar, in the middle of which there was a painting "Christ Supporting the Falling Peter". A pastor's house was built to the east of the temple.

Earlier in the temple there was an organ made by the famous Keningsberg master Terletsky. The bell tower was decorated with three huge bells. During World War I, the bells from the church were melted down for the needs of the front. In the post-war years, the bells were re-cast with donations from the community of Krantz and Adolf von Batotsky. After some time, at his own expense, three colored stained-glass windows were made behind the altar and the pulpit was made. During the fighting during the Second World War, the church of St. Adalbert was not damaged. Unfortunately, the bells have not survived to this day.

In the post-war period, the building of the temple was used as a city gym. In 1995 g. the city authorities decided to transfer the church to the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church. Moreover, the solemn consecration ceremony of the temple took place only in August 2007. The consecration ceremony was performed by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad. Seven bells were cast especially for the belfry of the Transfiguration Church in Voronezh. Externally, the church building remained practically unchanged.
